Where Is The Local News?

I woke up the yesterday with national news on our television covering the damaging hurricane Irene that travels in the path from the south all the way to the north path of the east coast, from Bahamas to South Carolina and all the way pass New York City the following day or today. They cover the path of the hurricane extensively from state to state. In a glimpse of few seconds, a fire in Yosemite caused by an explosion of a mobile home profane tank caused a 3,000 acres in the Yosemite area, and that caught my attention because we are currently here in northern California, just few hours travel to Yosemite. I decided to tune in further to the national news channel in case they give more details about the Yosemite fire, but majority of the news they talked about is the hurricane in the east coast.

We decided to head to a local news channel to see if they cover more about the Yosemite fire that is currently going on since its a local news so we assume that they cover more local happenings, more than they cover other state news. To our dismay, the local news are fixated talking about hurricane Irene as well, which is on the opposite side of the United States. Having a 3,000 acres fire near one of the most popular national park in the world is a huge news and need to be concern about. Unfortunately, its hard to even learn more about it in the local news channels, when they prefer to cover more on the hurricane Irene. We do specifically watch the news two days in a row to specifically know about what is going in with hurricane Irene, but knowing that there is a big fire in northern CA that came up, its good if the local news will cover that news too, so local people will be informed, be safe, and know what is going on in their own backyard. 

More Closet Room For The Shoes

I noticed that most home closets that came with old houses dont really have room for shoes. And if there is, most shoes ended up in the bottom part of the closet, or the only space for shoes is the little portion of floor space below the closet hanging area. For most of us, this space allocated for shoes is just not enough especially if both husband and wife have to share the same little space for all their shoes.

Me alone owns more than ten pairs of shoes not because I am a shoe collector but because I have shoes for different occassions. I have rubber shoes, sneakers, boots, slippers, sandals, and more, and all of these need a proper space in the closet.  And i would like to add more shoes to my already mounting numbers of variety of shoes especially if there are other styles or colors that I like. While browsing at Zappos website, I know there are easily two to three pairs in their online store that I would like to have especially their boots collections!

We recently renovated our bedroom, so we have a closet that is currently a blank canvas. When we finally decide the shelvings that we will add into it, I will definitely have shelvings for shoes and not settle for the floor space alone.

Getting Ready For Thanksgiving

We went to the grocery store yesterday and bought all the necessary ingredients for our Thanksgiving Dinner. We bought a 25 pound turkey, stuffing, gravy sauce mixture, jellied cranberry sauce, a pie of pumpkin pie, among other things. Im sure its going be a nice family dinner with all the great foods to savor upon and I cant wait. We didnt have any turkey last year because our kitchen was under renovation and thats why having one this year is even more exciting for us. I hope everyone will have a nice Thanksgiving celebration, keep on loving, always be thankful for all the blessings that you receive. Count your blessings, its a very powerful thing! Hilarious Movie

One of my favorite all-around favorite star is Jennifer Lopez. Whats not to like? She is super-talented, multi-talented, she can dance, sing, act, and run a business! Ive seen most of her movies especially the feel-good ones like The Wedding Planner, Maid In Manhattan, and Monster-In-Law. Im not a huge fun of suspense and scary movies but I managed to watched some of hers even.

Last night, we watched one of her latest movie, The Back-Up Plan, in blu-ray at home. Its hard to contained myself, the movie is hilarous! There were too many laughing moments in that movies that are extremely funny. And guess who else was in the movie? The famous Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan, is in the movie. We are familiar with him because we often watch his dog show on tv.

So if you are looking for a great laugh, a wholesome movie to watch, I highly recommend this movie. Infact, its definitely one of those movie that I can watch again soon and get a good laugh.

It Was A Busy Sunday

My husband and I had been procastinating of making Macaroni Salad for weeks. Few days ago, we were able to finally buy some of the ingredients that we needed for making the salad, and we planned to make it that day, but it didnt happen. Yesterday, a Sunday, we finally got the chance to be together in the kitchen and kept both our hands busy making the macaroni salad. Not only that, we decided to make Twice Bake Potato as well since we had these huge potatoes, sour and cream, and cheeze whiz that needed to be use up.

We also watched a blu-ray movie titled Catch And Release that came in the mail last Saturday. Its a very interesting storyline, i feel bad and then happy at the same time for Jennifer Garner in her role in the movie. How would someone react to a situation when the person that you love dearly passed away and then things starts to unravel and you will find out later that the person you loved was cheating on you when she/he was alive? Are you still gonna honor her/his memories together when she/he was alive? Or burry her/his memories with her/him in her/his grave and move on? Its kind of a weird movie for me.. UQ74TKGQ36CA

Recline And Relax

Over a year ago, we added a flat screen telivision in our living room that is mounted in the wall using a mounting bracket. We mounted the tv on top of the fireplace so we can enjoy both the view of the fireplace and watch tv at the same time. In order to do these, we placed our living room sofa facing the tv and the fireplace as well.

On multiple occassions, I truly wished we have a reclining sofa set instead of the existing beige sofa that we have that does not reclined. The way we mounted the tv, above the fireplace, its not very comfortable to watch tv shows seating in our living room sofa because we had to look up to watch it and its straining our necks. Having a reclining sofa set in our living room will be perfect because it will definitely be more comfortable to seat and lay down in the living room and watch tv.

We dont have a huge living room, so we want a reclining sofa set that has lighter shade so that the color of the furniture will not over power the space. But if we have huge living room, I would definitely go for the biggest size available, the bigger the better.

The Cat Surprise

I was out in the yard one day when I heared some movements in the tree bushes. I ignored it as first, but then I heared it again, and again. Out of curiousity, I went to peek what was behind all those leaves and branches, and there was a cat with its big wide eyes staring back at me. Luckily, I had my camera at that time, so I was able to steal some shots :-)

Strawberry Shortcake

I been making strawberry shortcake lately because our grocery and supermarkets nearby are selling a lot of fresh strawberries at this time of year. When I prepare strawberry shortcake, i used to slice them but now I prepare to dice them because its easier to eat and spread evenly in the cake.

A Hopeful New Beginning

It is the start of a New Year, January 2009, and today is the Inauguration of the 44th President of the United States of America, President Barack Obama.

Looking back for the past few years, its been tough for a lot of Americans as we face the the reality in our daily lives the effects of a slowing economy, the rising prices of oil and gas, the loss of lives at war, and among other things. As we look the years ahead of us, we may never know what lies ahead exactly, what will happen and what will not but a New Year and new President brings new hope, new beginning for all of us. There is tommorrow and we can choose to be optimistic about the future, a hope for a better change and a more successful year.

Hurricane Ike Making Landfall In Texas

After days of following hurricane Ike as it cruised through from the atlantic ocean to the gulf sea, it is only few hours away from making landfall in the coast of Texas. But even before the hurricane Ike arrives in the coast, there are already huge waves crashing againts the sea wall, and the wind is blowing violently and strong, just throwing sea water all over the place as if shaking a a bottle of water. The water surge caused by hurricane Ike may be huge and may go up higher than the sea wall, thats why it is not safe to be anywhere near the coastline at anytime during the landfall. If you are out there sightseeing and thinking it is fun to watch the waves, you shouldnt be doing that and put your life at risk instead it is advisable to take cover and stay away from the storm and stay on higher ground. No one never knows how mother nature behaves at all times, so it is best to be safe and stay in high ground as much as you can when you are near the hurricane Ike storm right now. I experienced typoons in the past, and hurricane is almost the same type of storm. Hurricanes can be violent and deadly specially when near body of water like the ocean. Winds can throw anything strong and violently that comes in its path, so stay indoor during the storm to avoid any flying debris, which is pretty common in times of hurricanes and typoons.

High Noon Triple Digit Temperature Nightmare

The other day, our weather temperature hit around 106 degrees fahrenheit at high noon. In the middle of the day, i came out to do some stuff around in the yard when all of a sudden i heard a weird noise coming from the central air conditioning unit we have. I called my hubby regarding the problem, which was a huge problem because it was in the middle of the day and the sun was burning way hot, one of the hottest day of the year we ever have this year! Having a problem in the HVAC unit was not a good thing because we dont have another options to keep the house cool down. Our fan is not very reliable to beat a temperature as hot as 106 degrees fahrenheit. So we literally had no other choice but called an HVAC Repair company to take a look at the broken unit. The repair technician showed up around an hour later, and his diagnosis required a major part of the unit ready to give up and needed replacement. What else could be the worst thing that could happen during a triple digit temperature at noon time than having a broken air conditioning unit that needed repair and cost hundreds of dollars in parts and service labor.

A Glance At Extreme Weather Conditions In The USA

I notice how different the weather can be depending on where you live in the United States. In the west like CA, the weather can go extremely hot specially on the summer season, and there are times that gust and wind conditions in a dry, hot days are high fire danger. On the northwest like Washington and Oregon, they normally have rain and clouds there, and during winter season, it can get really cold and icy out there, just like most northern states. Living in the southern states are also vulnerable to hurricanes and tropical depressions. And in the mid US, some of the states are part of what is called the tornado alley, states where tornadoes are likely to hit and pass. No one really wants to experience any of these extreme weather conditions. If we can ever control the weather, we all probably want a nice cool summer day!

Heating Up At The Water Cube In Beijing China

The swimming competition for the Summer Olympics was heating up the other day at Water Cube in Beijing China as Michael Phelps of USA Team snatched another gold medal by one and one hundred of a second, a win that was just a fingertip ahead from the silver medalist! This Gold Medal winning of Michael Phelps was his 7th Gold Medal winning for the Beijing Olympics alone, which broke the World Record that Mark Spitz achieved way back in 1972 Olympics as he went home with seven (7) Gold Medal in a single Olympic season. The Summer Olympics in Beijing China is not yet over, so there is still more chance for Michael Phelps to win even more Gold Medals for swimming, adding to his already breaking record seven (7) gold medals winning! Big horray to Michael Phelps for his epic winning Olympic achievement and making swimming history.

Gymnastics Team Showdown

It was a close fight between USA team and China team in the fight for a Gold Medal in the Gymnastics Team Showdown last night at Summer Olympics in Beijing China. Before the floor exercise, the USA team only needed one point to even the score with the China team. It all came down for the USA team to perform great at floor exercise with very few room for error, but the China team did a really great job and showmanship at the floor exercise which kept their score high, and the few mistakes that the USA team unintentionally committed definitely hurt their overall score that resulted in 2.3+ points leads for the China team in the gymnastic team showdown and China Team won the Gold Medal.

Overall, it was a very close fight and both teams put up great showmanship. All the athletes in the gymnastic teams, both USA and China, have such incredible talents, that take years of practice and hardwork to master. Gold or silver medal, they should be all proud for making that far, either way, it is a great accomplishment on their part because there are only very few people who can perform those artistic twisting, flipping and flying!

I have just seen the beautiful island of Nim and Nim herself through a dvd! We just watched the movie Nim's Island this week and I am giving it 10 points in a rating with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest! Nim's Island movie is guarantee to make you laugh and perfect movie for the entire family. By far, one of the best, hilarious, and fun movie Ive seen this year!

See that cute girl from the movie Little Miss Sunshine as she shine again in her new movie as the she save a remote island in the pacific from all uninvited intruders, you wont believe who the unvited guests are, find it out yourself by watching the movie! Nim and her father have been living in an undiscovered island, an island they call home, somewhere in the remote area of the vast pacific ocean. In the movie, you will also meet Nims loyal friends in the island including a lizzard and a seal!

If this movie, Nim's Island, will not make you laugh, i have no idea what else will, you are probably so tired and fall asleep on your seat (just kidding). If you have seen the movie, would be glad to hear what you think.
